Chasing Waterfalls – Discovering the Hidden Waterfalls of Cyprus

There’s something magical about waterfalls — maybe it’s the sound of rushing water, the refreshing mist on your face, or the fact that they make you feel like you’ve stepped into a movie scene. Today, I set off to explore some of Cyprus’ most hidden and breathtaking waterfalls, away from the tourist crowds and deep into nature.

If you think Cyprus is all about beaches and sunshine, think again! The island’s mountainous heart hides some spectacular waterfalls that offer a refreshing break from the summer heat. Plus, let’s be honest — nothing beats the feeling of finding a natural paradise after a bit of an adventure.

Caledonia Waterfall

My first stop? Caledonia Waterfall, nestled in the Troodos Mountains. The hike to get there was a bit of a workout (seriously, why do I always forget that waterfalls mean uphill walking?), but completely worth it. The trail took me through lush greenery, shaded by tall pine trees, with the sound of water guiding me to the final reward — a stunning 12-meter-high waterfall cascading into a small, crystal-clear pool.

I may or may not have dipped my toes in, instantly regretting my life choices because wow, that water was cold. But hey, at least I got that refreshing nature spa treatment for free! If you love scenic hikes, Caledonia is a must — just make sure to wear comfortable shoes because the trail can get a little slippery.

Millomeris Waterfall

Next, I made my way to Millomeris Waterfall, which, fun fact, is actually the tallest waterfall in Cyprus at 15 meters! Unlike Caledonia, you don’t need to hike far to reach this one, making it perfect if you want the waterfall experience without the sweat.

The best part? There were hardly any people around, meaning I had the place to myself for a while — just me, the sound of the water, and a million failed attempts to take an Instagram-worthy splash photo. If you’re looking for an easy-to-reach yet stunning natural spot, Millomeris is definitely a winner!

Mesa Potamos Waterfall

For the grand finale, I visited Mesa Potamos Waterfall, a true hidden gem deep in the forest. The drive there was a bit of an adventure (hello winding mountain roads!), but it felt like stumbling into a secret paradise.

This place is pure tranquility, with a small picnic area nearby — perfect for enjoying a well-deserved snack. Pro tip: Bring some local halloumi sandwiches; nothing beats a cheese break after a waterfall hunt! If you’re looking for a peaceful escape where you can truly connect with nature, Mesa Potamos is the place to go.

Should You Go Waterfall Chasing in Cyprus?

Absolutely! At the end of the day, I felt refreshed, accomplished, and slightly damp from all the waterfall mist. If you’re ever in Cyprus and want to escape the beaches for a day, chasing waterfalls is a must.
