When people think of Cyprus, they imagine golden beaches, turquoise waters, and endless sunshine. And don’t get me wrong – lying on a beach with a cocktail in hand is a great way to spend a vacation. But Cyprus has so much more to offer than just a tan.
After spending a few days in Paphos and Protaras, I realized I had eaten way too much halloumi and souvlaki, and my swimsuit was getting suspiciously tight. That’s when I decided: It’s time to explore Cyprus on foot!
The Famous Aphrodite and Adonis Trails

Cyprus is full of ancient myths, and what better way to connect with the past than by hiking a trail named after Aphrodite, the goddess of love?
The Aphrodite and Adonis trails near Latchi are two of the most famous hikes in Cyprus. I started with the Aphrodite Trail, which is a circular route leading to breathtaking views over the Akamas Peninsula. The climb was tough (or maybe I’m just really out of shape), but once I reached the ruins of an ancient bath where Aphrodite supposedly bathed, I felt like I had earned my first snack break.
The Adonis Trail is just as beautiful, but if legend is to be believed, Adonis met a rather tragic end here. So if you’re feeling dramatic, this is the perfect place to strike a heroic pose while overlooking the Mediterranean.
Artemis Trail

If you want to feel like you’re hiking above the world, the Artemis Trail is for you!
Located at Mount Olympus (the highest peak in Cyprus, not the one in Greece where Zeus lives), this trail offers stunning views over the island. What makes it unique? It’s one of the few hikes in Cyprus where you can walk through a dense pine forest instead of rocky landscapes.
I started the trail expecting a calm, peaceful walk – and for the most part, it was. But then I saw a random goat staring at me from a tree (yes, apparently goats in Cyprus are part-time climbers). Let’s just say we had an awkward staring contest before I slowly backed away.
Pro tip: If you go in winter, it might be snowing at the top! The roads to Troodos can be closed for regular cars during snowfall, so only 4×4 vehicles or cars with snow chains are allowed. Don’t be that tourist who gets stuck and has to call for help!
Kionia Trail

For those who love history and hiking, the Kionia Trail is a perfect choice.
Located near Vavatsinia, this trail offers a mix of stunning mountain views and historical ruins. Along the way, you’ll pass by old Venetian bridges, ancient ruins, and even abandoned villages. The views stretch across the Machairas Forest, and on a clear day, you can even see the coast!
At one point, I stopped for a water break and saw an old stone structure. Thinking it was just another ruin, I walked up to it, only to find a friendly old man sitting inside, roasting chestnuts! He offered me one, and let me tell you – Cypriot hospitality is undefeated.
Pro tip: Bring snacks and plenty of water, as there aren’t many places to refill along the way.
Madari Circular Trail

If you want one of the best panoramic views on the island, the Madari Trail is a must-do. Located in the Troodos Mountains, this circular route offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks, valleys, and even the sea in the distance.
The best part? It’s not as crowded as other trails, so you can actually enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Just bring good hiking shoes, because the path can be rocky, and nobody wants to be that person who slips and slides down a mountain.
Cape Greco

If you love hiking, but also love stopping every five minutes for a great photo, Cape Greco is for you!
Located between Ayia Napa and Protaras, this area is full of scenic coastal trails, natural rock bridges, and sea caves. The views over the crystal-clear Mediterranean are jaw-dropping, and the trails aren’t too difficult – perfect for a relaxing afternoon walk.
The only downside? It’s hard to walk fast when you’re stopping every few minutes to take pictures. (My phone storage definitely suffered after this hike!)
Should You Hike in Cyprus?
If you love epic views – YES.
If you want to burn off all the amazing food – ABSOLUTELY.
If you think Cyprus is only about beaches – GO HIKING AND CHANGE YOUR MIND!
